BILD something else

The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) have joined the list of groups arguing that the City of Toronto should forgo a costly subway expansion through the sparsely populated suburb of Scarborough. The city had already secured provincial funding to modernize and add a seventh stop to the existing light-rapid transit system, when former Mayor Doug Ford pushed through a three-stop subway plan instead. The cost estimate for the project works out to more than $1-billion per station, with the city responsible for more than $900-million. BILD has an obvious motivation – their members would be the ones footing much of the $165-million in development charges the city needs to raise to pay the tab.
