Zero Hour

According to Builder magazine, Santa Monica, Calif., has become the first municipality to require any new single-family homes constructed within city limits to be net-zero – in other words, they have to generate as much energy as they consume from the grid. The proposal needs to pass the state energy board but, if approved, would come into effect in 2017.
