Permit Pending

Vancouver-area builders are facing a development fee hike of their own. The city currently has a backlog of more than 2,400 permits to build single-family units, duplexes, and laneway housing. They want to hire more staff to help clear the backup, but estimate that it will cost about $2-million to do so.
To pay for it, the city is proposed a 30 percent hike in rezoning fees. Larger mixed-use developments could face a jump of nearly $200,000.
On the upside, the faster they get the job done, the faster they can move on to the next one.
